Dr. Everitt’s Last Stand

This in from the Albuquerque Journal (and from the Tribune). Dr. Elizabeth Everitt, also known as the superintendent who fumbled the ball on grade-gate, principal-gate, APS Police Chief-gate and many other -gates held a press conference and has decided to pack it in and “retire” at the end of the 2007-2008 school year.

I say “retire” because it turns out that the concept of retirement, in addition to many other things, eludes Dr. Everitt. She has decided to move on to another “urban school district” to inflict the type of “leadership” that only she appears to be able to. I don’t know how many school boards out there have members with “F”-level kids who’s teachers and administration need some… bribery threats convincing to give them a “D.”

And I’m sure there are a lot of schools out there with good principals who need to be transferred to bad schools for no other reason than the superintendent has a whim to “shake things up.”

Speaking as a proud APS grad.

“Dr. Everitt, get the hell out of my district.”

    I, for one, am delighted.

The “grade-gate” got me making a public statement to the School Board. BTW: Marty Esquivel is a wonderful, thoughtful member and he really listens to constituents.

The transfer of principals is ludicrous. I can’t help but wonder what’s going to happen to all the lousy ones. Are they going to be rewarded with excellent schools to destroy? Yeah, that makes sense.

I know that the crummy principal at my kids’ school was just made “cluster leader” after only two years as a full principal. Am I dismayed? Yes. Am I surprised? Nah.

    BTW: Discworld rocks!
